Lê Phổ (1907 – 2001), a visionary artist of Vietnamese art
Lê Phổ began his artistic journey at the newly inaugurated École des Beaux-Arts d'Indochina, before continuing his training at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. After sharing his artistic knowledge in Vietnam in the 1930s, Lê Phổ returned to France, where he continued to paint and exhibit until his death in 2001.
He is recognized for his colorful depictions of Vietnamese landscapes and women, where he brilliantly combines the lessons he has learned from Asian and Western painting techniques. His work harmoniously fuses elements of impressionism, surrealism and traditional Chinese painting.
