The auction of wines and spirits from two private cellars, organized this Thursday, December 7, 2023 by the Hôtel des Ventes de Monte-Carlo, was an immense success with more than 90% of lots sold and prices which were flown to all the French wine regions!
The quality of the lots presented aroused enthusiasm with prices most often above estimates:
+40% for spirits (excluding whiskey), +70% for Champagne, +23% for Sauternes and +29% for red Bordeaux. Even Burgundy wines, although neglected for several months, achieved an honorable average performance of +3%!
Among the notable auctions:
Two lots of 12 bottles of Romanée Conti sold for €44.200 and €71.500 respectively.
The expert Aymeric de Clouet was particularly delighted with the good overall sale of Cognacs (in particular the “old reserve” from the Hôtel de Paris) at €270 per bottle, and the return to favor of sweet wines from Bordeaux (Yquem 1893 at €4, but also the 800 at €1975) and the dynamics of the great Bordeaux market with Mouton-Rothschild 550 at €1982 per bottle, Petrus 770 at €1998, Lafite-Rothschild 2500 at €2003).
The Hôtel des Ventes de Monte-Carlo once again demonstrates its ability to put up for sale beautiful cellars of discerning and demanding collectors. For a total sales proceeds of 510.000 euros.
