History: this type of mahogany furniture refers to the Jacob Russe style
inspired by the French cabinetmaker Georges Jacob (1739-1814). This style is trendy
between 1790 and 1830. There is no direct link between the work of the cabinetmaker
French and the Russian style bearing his name. It seems that the name Jacob was
used for its commercial impact, by transposing the qualities of cabinetmakers
French on Russian mahogany furniture. This style was hugely successful
and was developed throughout Russia and not only in Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
