History: it was during the marriage of Grand Duke Ernst-Louis of HesseDarmstadt (1868-1937), celebrated on April 9, 1894 at Ehrenburg Castle in Cobourg, with Princess Victoria-Mélita of Great Britain (1876-1936 ), that his younger sister, the young Princess Alix of Hesse-Darmstadt (1872-1918), accepted the hand of Emperor Alexander III's eldest son, the Hereditary Grand Duke
of Russia (1868-1918). Thus, the young princess aged 22, will become
a few months later Empress Alexander Feodorovna of Russia. This is
on this occasion that the Russian delegation accompanying Tsarevich Nicolas
offered the future tsarina numerous presents. Including this one, which was delivered by
Constantin Dimitrievich Persky (1854-1906).
